Why Regret Is the Worst Feeling in Racing

I’ve seen it too many times: kids showing up late, skipping data sessions, playing on their phones instead of focusing on their next session.

Helmet goes on one minute before the race. Comes off, and they go play again.

• No focus
• No structure
• No hunger

And I tell them straight up:

“One day, when you’re my age, the last thing you want is to look back and say: I could’ve done more.”

Because trust me: regret doesn’t go away easily.

The Harsh Truth: Your Racing Career Isn’t Guaranteed

If you’re 10, 11, or 12, you might think you’ll be racing forever. But here’s the truth:

You won’t.

It might end in 5 years. It might end next season.

• Life happens
• Budgets run dry
• Results don’t come
• Maybe, your priorities shift

This is a rare window. And once it closes, it’s gone.

Now I’m not saying that to scare you. I’m saying it to wake you up.

The Opportunity You’ve Been Given Is Massive

If you’re racing, it means someone, your parents, believe in you.

They’re investing time, money, and energy to see you grow. That’s not something to take lightly.

And I get it. I’ve lived it.

My dad introduced me and my brother to racing. And if he didn’t? Honestly, I don’t know what I’d be doing right now. It shaped my entire life.

You may be 12 and not fully realize it yet… but you’ve been given a gift.

The question is: are you doing everything you can with it?

What Giving It Everything Really Looks Like

This isn’t just about showing up. It’s about showing up with intent.

Here’s what I teach my drivers at BabyRace and Senndit when we talk about going all in without regrets:

1. One More Minute Always Matters

• One more minute in the data room = one less mistake next session
• One more minute watching your onboard = better lines, better decisions
• One more minute watching your rivals = more racecraft learned

Think about that.

Are you putting in those extra minutes? Or are you rushing off to scroll your phone?

2. Talk to Your Mechanic (Like You Care)

Your mechanic is your teammate. Not just the guy who fixes your engine.

Ask questions. Get feedback. Review the kart setup together.

One conversation can unlock half a second. But if you never ask? You’ll never know.

3. Use the Track Time Like It’s Gold

Because it is.

Karting is expensive. Every lap costs real money. So why would you go out there without a plan?

Visualize your goals before every session:

• “What am I focusing on this stint?”
• “Where do I want to improve?”

A Quick Story From My Own Journey

Let me take you back to when I was 13.

I had just started dreaming about Formula One. That was the only thing I cared about. And when I didn’t win? I’d get emotional. I’d cry. Because to me, losing a race felt like losing a shot at F1.

Looking back, that emotion came from caring so much. Maybe too much. But that drive? It pushed me to train harder, push more, and never take shortcuts.

And today, even though I didn’t end up in F1, I look back with zero regrets. I gave it my all.

If it doesn’t work out, you move on with your life with pride, not regret.

Karting Isn’t a Right. It’s a Privilege.
